If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. (Jn. 8:36) There’s no freedom like the freedom Jesus gives. Through His precious blood Jesus has delivered us out of the bondage of sin and death. While it cost us nothing, it cost Him everything. It begins with Him giving up His position as God and taking on the form of a servant/man. He went from the highest to the lowest and was not adversely affected by it. Jesus gave us freedom because He was free. He welcomed the command because He understood the greater plan.
To look at it in the natural, it’s like going from riches to rags so that others might be made rich (see II Cor. 8:9). He who was/is righteous became sin, that we who have sinned might become righteous (see II Cor. 5:21). What an exchange!!! Jesus did not lose confidence, composure, or identity in His assignment to save us. He didn’t try to hold on to His position as God to avoid the rejection, opposition, and persecution that came His way. He let go of the title, office, honor, and prestige and became a slave. He relied solely upon one thing – His relationship with the Father.
“Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of Himself. He had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what -Not at all. When the time came, He set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human! Having become human, He stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process. He didn’t claim special privileges. Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death—and the worst kind of death at that—a crucifixion” (see Phi. 2:5-8 MSG).
This same Jesus is the One who makes us free. Freedom is not on the outside but within. Freedom is liberty to do what is right in any situation. The wages of sin/wrong doing is death. To say that God is okay with sin is to say that God is okay with death. But the Word says the gift of God is eternal life (see Rom. 6:23).
Although the supreme court, with the support and influence of the current administration, voted to add sin (perverting the sacred covenant institution of marriage) on top of sin (sexual perversion), they have not changed God’s mind. The Word of God says, “the Lord does not delay and is not tardy or slow about what He promises … not desiring that any should perish, but that ALL should turn to repentance (see 2 Pet. 3:9 MSG). What they’ve done is paved the way down a slippery slope that many may never recover from. The payment for sin is still death and the gift of God is still eternal life. God Don’t Lie. Here’s the equation: A. Sin=Death; B. Jesus=Salvation. Choose B.
