    It Works!

    October 18, 2015

“The old agreement didn’t even work. If it had, there would have been no need for another to replace it.” Heb 8:7 TLB

If something is not working you either fix it, replace it, or do without it. To continue in a broken system is insanity at its best. The Old Agreement/Covenant did not work for the people of God, but God was aware of that even before it went into effect. His intention under the Old was to show how wicked and evil a sinful life is and how powerless we are to overcome it without His intervention. The wrath and punishment which came as a result of the people’s rebellion and disobedience was for our example and admonition (see I Cor 10:6, 11) so that we might turn from sin unto Him who is able to keep us from stumbling or falling (see Jude 24).

The Old Covenant had an expiration date which came in the fullness of time when the Father sent forth His Son, Jesus (see Gal 4:4). The Father chose to replace the Old with the New at the expense/sacrifice of His Son, Jesus. The Old Covenant was ratified by the blood of animals; the New Covenant is ratified by the Blood of Jesus. Everything goes from good to better in that the Old Covenant was good if you obeyed, but the New Covenant is Better if you Believe.

Under the New Covenant God says He’ll put (didomito give something to someone) His laws in our mind (dianoia – thoughts, feelings and understanding) and write (epigrapho – to inscribe) them in our heart (kardia – center of physical and spiritual life – to live by). Instead of external worship and ministry, it now comes from within – out of the heart – with a greater revelation and understanding of the truth of the Word.

The Word of God is not given to condemn or to destroy, but to redeem. The Father already knows we’re miserable, wretched, and undone apart from Him. We are as guilty and sinful as He says we are. He doesn’t have to prove His case because the evidence is clear. God is not satisfied with condemning us; He wants to justify and bless us. That’s what this New Covenant is all about. That’s what the Gospel is all about – the redemptive plan of the Father to reconcile us back to Him through Jesus and for us to fulfill the hope of His calling. Every promise in Jesus is Yes and Amen. He will withhold no good thing from them which walk uprightly (see Ps 84:11).

The Old Agreement didn’t work, but the New Agreement is the epitome of Perfection – It works! There is no guilt or condemnation to the one that Believes. Keep Believing!

But this is the new agreement I will make with the people of Israel, says the Lord: I will write My laws in their minds so that they will know what I want them to do without My even telling them, and these laws will be in their hearts so that they will want to obey them, and I will be their God and they shall be My people. Heb 8:10 TLB
