“The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.” Lev 6:13
This statement was concerning the burnt offering upon the altar under the Old Covenant but is indicative of the fire of the Holy Spirit burning within our hearts as evidence of a life ablaze for the glory of God. John the Baptist was considered a burning one, “He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light (Jn 5:35).” On fire, yet not consumed (used up) is evidence of revival.
Revival is the missing element in the Church and the world continues in darkness as a result. The Church IS that burning and shining light that exposes and reproves the darkness but has allowed the darkness to infiltrate its borders/assemblies making it ineffective, dull, and impotent. The condition of the world is the barometer of the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of the Church. We are either the light or the darkness; salt or saltless; alive or dead to God. There is no in between, neutral, or demilitarized zone for the Church. Be hot or cold but never lukewarm. May the fire on the altar of our hearts never go out.
To burn is to yearn for the very Presence of God. To burn is to be on fire for God. It is to hunger and thirst for holiness, righteousness, salvation, and sanctification. It is hating the very garments spotted by this mortal flesh due to its sinfulness, rebellion, hindrance and rejection of the things of God. To burn is to pursue the will of God with the most ardent zeal and never settling until He manifests His glory in the land. Ask for the rain in the time of rain.
The Kingdom of God is at hand and must be advanced through the Church of the Living God if we are to see another Great Awakening and Revival in our land. The conditions are perfect: we are a Nation divided on many levels; the Church is divided on many levels; politicians are corrupt; schools are failing; prisons are overcrowded; drug use is up; alcohol drinking is up; violence is up; crime is up; murder is up; homelessness is up; poverty is up; sin is up!
All these things are indicators that the Church has been asleep or silent. Apostasy is off the table. This is our Watch. We are not going to stand before Jesus embarrassed by what we could have done or what we should have done. In the words of Pastor Rod Parsley, “Our times demand it, our History compels it, our future requires it, and most of all…God is watching.” God is not only watching, He is waiting on us. Our most effective weapon is prayer to God and the preaching of His Word to sinners (see Acts 6:4). Empowered by the Holy Ghost we are able to pray and preach effectively as Jesus would have us to do to accomplish the greater works He spoke of. The Fire will not go out on our Watch!
“That is why I would remind you to stir up (rekindle the embers of, fan the flame of, and keep burning) the [gracious] gift of God, [the inner fire] that is in you by means of the laying on of my hands [with those of the elders at your ordination].” II Tim 1:6 AMP
